Synopsis:
ONE OF THE BOYS

What girl doesn't want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks day in and day out? Jordan Woods isn't just surrounded by hot guys, though-she leads them as the captain and quarterback of her high school football team. They all see her as one of the guys and that's just fine. As long as she gets her athletic scholarship to a powerhouse university.

But everything she's ever worked for is threatened when Ty Green moves to her school. Not only is he an amazing QB, but he's also amazingly hot. And for the first time, Jordan's feeling vulnerable. Can she keep her head in the game while her heart's on the line?
I have been reading Miranda's Hundred Oaks series out of order for a while and have caught glimpses of Jordan throughout, she's especially mentioned in the final book Coming Up For Air, Having read and loved the finale I wanted to see what started it all. I grabbed Jordan's book and just loved diving in. Right from the start, we see the dedication Jordan has to her craft and her need to prove to not just herself but everyone that she takes the game seriously.

Jordan Woods is the starting QB for the Hundred Oaks team, she's the daughter of a famous football player and the sister of a top collegiate football player, football is in her DNA. She's best friends with Sam Henry who also is her go-to guy on the field. She's been playing and kicking butt for years and this is her senior year, she's taking the team to the state championships so she can prove to her favorite school Alabama that she's worth having on their team.

For a book that's only 288 pages, Miranda packs quite a punch taking on the inherent misogyny within sports and how athletes are viewed. Jordan is good at the game and while her teammates and her high school coach take her seriously no one else seems to be doing the same. She wants to go to Alabama because it's her dream school and while it appears they are interested, there is a chance the opportunity isn't all it appears to be.  Miranda writes great likable characters and even the ones who seem to be the worst are even more nuanced once Jordan starts to pay attention.

For her senior year, Jordan wants to concentrate on getting that perfect season and getting into Alabama.  Then one day at practice a new guy appears and makes her knees weak, for the first time ever Jordan is noticing a guy, and this one could be a threat to her perfectly ordered life. Tyler Green is beautiful and someone she's happy to look at and get to know, he makes her nervous, uncertain and remembers that she's a girl. Jordan knows that she wants to explore these feeling she's having for the first time and while she's confident on the field she's not so sure anywhere else.  I loved the exploration of what makes girls feminine. Jordan discounted a few of the characters who eventually because good friends and sounding boards for her because she considered them "silly girls" because they embraced being 'girly'.  She believed and worked with the idea that she couldn't be taken seriously if she embraced her feminine side and as the story progressed she had to learn to balance the two.  Jordan's decision to explore with Tyler opens up a whole new world for her, and at the same time becomes a source of great upheaval, it makes her question friendships, and what she believes about relationships.

As the story progressed with Jordan having so many lessons to learn, she's growing out of the idea that football is all she needs to be about, as she and her friends embrace the season and she explores her feelings she realizes that her friends are nuanced and have so many more facets to themselves than what they do on the field and that it's all acceptable. There are many lessons for Jordan, and for the people around her. I loved that she had so many different kinds of friends and friendships they were great friends and some were quite hilarious.  Her relationship with her brother is fantastic and I loved that even though her father didn't seem to care about her playing football, he still tried to reach her even if it was with things that she no longer liked. I loved the familial relationships because while her parents fundamentally didn't agree on football for Jordan they still had a great relationship, one where her mom wasn't afraid to call him out.

I loved the discussion of familial expectation and how it impacted each of the players on the team differently. What they wanted vs what their parents desired was a great source of stress for a few of the team and as Jordan realized it wasn't just her father's issues with her playing that she had to deal with as Captain.

I loved the overall lesson that what you once planned doesn't have to be the only way. Your dreams are allowed to change and sometimes embracing change can bring an even better outcome.  This was a fantastic start to this series and I can't wait to get to the others and share my thoughts with you.

Synopsis:
The only thing Rebecca Carson ever wanted to do was join the FBI. Now, that was in danger because of a situation, of which she’d had little control. So when her ex-partner and mentor, Travis Hansen, calls and offers her an opportunity to help him with a job, she jumps at the chance. Gage Daniels has made a pretty good life for himself. As a professional football player, all he has to do is ask, and most things are made available to him. This includes women. A well timed smile is usually all it takes to attract the opposite sex, especially in Nashville. When a stalker threatens Gage, the team owner calls an old friend to help protect his star quarterback. Rebecca must work to protect Gage while staving off his advances. The last thing she wants is to be another notch on a hot shot athlete’s belt.
I actually read this book in order and enjoyed it.  This is a sports romance featuring a hot Footballer and a FBI agent who is assigned to him.  Gage isn't your typical footballer, having grown up in a tight family he's actually a decent guy, he hasn't let the fame get to him and he's funny, and decent, which is rarely written now when it comes to sports romance.  he isn't a manwhore although he does state he dates, but he's honest up front and doesn't court the kind of drama that a few real life players do.

I really enjoyed the conversations that Rebecca and Gage had, the way the verbally sparred and teased each other.  I really love the description of Gage's home which is where most of the story happens.  The layout and the decor and how it felt like home for them.  I loved that we had gotten a glimpse of it from his brother's perspective as well in the first book.  I loved that Rebecca as the hero in this story, she's the one who saves him, she's the one with the gun.

I really enjoyed the character development that Sherri put in.  Even though this was Rebecca's and Gage's story when they met up with the family each of the characters & their unique personalities shined through and I enjoyed myself in those scenes, including the most awkward moments of Rebecca's sister being introduced, wow I'm not sure I could forgive that moment. Talk about inserting a whole shoe department in your mouth bro.

Written from a dual POV the characters inner thoghts, fears, and ideas gave this story a depth only one POV wouldn't have.  As much as I enjoyed the story I kept saying to myself that in today's celebrity obsessed world there is no way some paparazzi wasn't stalking Gage for a story or behind the scenes shots and didn't get shots of what was happening when Gage wasn't around.  Their keeping things from him had the potential to be dangerous not just for him but for everyone around him as well.  I did notice a few minor plot threads that weren't really worked on and I'm hoping some will be picked up in the other books.

I really enjoyed the overall story, about love and the strength of family.  Gage's family and their closeness are a grounding force for him, and Rebecca's younger sister is the reason she's who she is.  I loved the flow of the story even though the mystery wasn't the strongest, it still kept me reading to find out because she didn't give a lot of clues about who the perpetrator was.

The thanksgiving trip is the turning point of this book for me I really loved them there and I can't wait to read all the other stories that were setup there and seeing more from the Daniels' brothers., Their mom is my favorite character because she's so cool and she reminds me so much of my mother,  s a sports romance I loved that the author didn't try to teach us the game while talking about the job that Gage had, like you wither know it or use google.

Synopsis:
Swim. Eat. Shower. School. Snack. Swim. Swim. Swim. Dinner. Homework. Bed. Repeat. All of Maggie’s focus and free time is spent swimming. She’s not only striving to earn scholarships—she’s training to qualify for the Olympics. It helps that her best friend, Levi, is also on the team and cheers her on. But Levi’s already earned an Olympic tryout, so Maggie feels even more pressure to succeed. And it’s not until Maggie’s away on a college visit that she realizes how much of the “typical” high school experience she’s missed by being in the pool. Not one to shy away from a challenge, Maggie decides to squeeze the most out of her senior year. First up? Making out with a guy. And Levi could be the perfect candidate. After all, they already spend a lot of time together. But as Maggie slowly starts to uncover new feelings for Levi, how much is she willing to sacrifice in the water to win at love?
Apparently this is the final book in this series.  Oops.  I read the last book first bwahahahaha.  I must be honest, I tried picking up catching Jordan years ago and I wasn't in the mood so I moved on to something else.  These books however have always been on my radar and now I want to read the entire series in order so I can know just how truly awesome they are.

I really enjoyed the fact that the young woman was a serious athlete, she wasn't doing it because her family wanted her to, she wasn't doing it because of some guy, or because she was trying to change who she was, she as here because she has always wanted to be here.  Having spent so much time in the pool or training or competing she really hasn't had the 'typical' high school experience, and when she goes away to a college trip she realizes it's possible to balance it all and have fun while being an athlete. Not sure who else to turn to she asks her best friend Levi to help her gain all the knowledge and experience she's missed out on, because who else would understand that's she's focused on becoming an Olympian but someone else who is also vying for that spot??

Throw in an competitor who seems to have it all together and who is doing better than she is even though she came to the sport later in life, and you have the makings of a great story.  I really enjoyed this one. I loved how Maggie explored with someone she felt safe with, she was still strong and into her sport, she sought out help when trying to learn how to balance it all, which means we got to see several old characters from the other books.  I loved the advice she was given and how she tries to take the advice while still remaining who she was.  I really related to this as a former gymnast, especially the workout schedule and the eating and the focus on doing better by just seconds.  While I'm not a swimmer this definitely made me feel like I understood them better and their training was something to truly respect.

I really loved how this wasn't about a love story, but really a story of firsts, a story of exploration and a story of understanding how to balance all your wants and needs while still being the best you can be in your field.  Maggie has some great friends, and an even better family and it really made the story that her parents were still such a strong couple who totally supported their daughter.

Very well written, and for someone who hasn't read the entire series. it was a heart warming story and it made me want to read all the others as well, so guess what I did?? You guessed it, I got all the others to read in order then read this one again with the history of all the other couples and stories in my head.  it's a journey I look forward to.

I recommend for those looking for a good story featuring a true athlete and an exploration of love and who we can be.
