Let's call this the Black Author Bookoutlet haul because I literally ordered all the blackest books I could find on the website. I needed more books for my Blackout Challenge and so I went hunting the classics and the modern.

Binti by Nnedi Okorafor. I'm kind of mad this is so small but whatevs I'm sure it will be a fast read for me then

Lagoon also by Nnedi Okorafor no idea what it's about but got because she's really popular author and I wanted to see what the hype was all about.

Then I got some works by the great Octavia E Butler. She's an amazing writer of Afrofuturism so if you want to explore that check these out.

Parable of The Sower (Earthseed 1) This has been on my radar for a long time and I couldn't' wait to get to this.

Parable of the Talents (Earthseed 2)

Best Friends Forever Kimberla Lawson Roby. Simply because I've been collecting her works for a while and this one I don't have.  

Ibi Zoboi's American Street. which is supposed to be about immigrants and I can't wait to dive in.

Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson, because of the author. I've enjoyed reading a few of her other works so I figured I would grab this as well.

The Good Negress by A. J Verdelle. I loved the look of the cover and it's on the Lemonade Syllabus so I snagged this one as well.

And for my non-fiction, I scooped up Every Body Yoga by Jessamyn Stanley who is just all over nowadays and she justly deserves all the hype she's getting.

And that's all folks. Another good haul for this week, really I should stay away but umm I already know I have a few more books coming in next week then we have ebooks. I tell myself I'm never going to let the haul get so big ever again and I stick to that for about a week then I go crazy and now look. My gawds, I'm running out of room to put bookshelves up. It's fine, It's fine I'll ...just put them in the guest room?? Maybe??

The Night of THe Solstice by L.J. Smith I read this several years ago in my childhood. and I just wanted to have it in my collection.   

Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered by Maggie Shayne. Because of Maggie

Spellbound by Sylvia Day. I have read this and loved it, however, I couldn't bring myself to pay full price for it. I was super stocked when it popped up on the website. 

Dollar Tree 

A Step Toward Falling by Cammie McGovern

All That Glows Ryan Graudi a total cover buy.

Brazil Today  I had seen this on so many vlog hauls from Dollar tree and I just knew I had to have it. So when I saw it I snagged it. It's beautiful.

The Shadow by Sylvain Reynard. Simply because of the author.

Legends and Liars by Julia Knight. Another total cover buy, the premise sounds awesome, I just have to find the first book int he series first.

Royce Rolls by Margaret Stohl. I picked this up because it's based on reality tv and I love watching the train wrecks of 'reality' sometimes.

I got these two books because of Aimee Carter.  I loved her Goddess Test series

Captive  & Pawn 

Until the Beginning Amy Plum This is book two in this series and I'm borrowing my sister's copy because once again I went to BEA and mine was stolen once it was signed.  Can you tell I'm still bitter even though it's a few years ago??

Charity Shops & Library Purchases

The only book from the charity shops is A Good Dose of Pleasure by Zuri Day I'm collecting her catalog of books so when I saw this I had to have it.

Blood Books Volume 1 by Tanya Huff The Vicki Nelson series. Fantastic Vampire/Paranormal world books.  I loved it when it was made into a series by Lifetime network.

Brownies and Broomsticks by Bailey Gates. I'm hoping this lives up to my hype. I've had this on my wishlist since it came out.

Crush an Anthology with Michele Grant, Lutishia Lovely & Cydney Rax. I got it because it's Michelle and I loved her Black N' Bougie blog  I loved the community she created there. I recommend her writing because my gosh I loved it.

Private Arrangements by Brenda Jackson. I'm also collecting her catalog of books and I jumped when I saw this one.

Tempting Fate by Jane Green. I love to collect her books, she's a fun summer read when you need a light contemporary.

The Vixen and the Vet by Kait Regnery. Another book on my wishlist, I snagged this as I was browsing.

Play by Kylie Scott. This is book two in a rockstar romance and I can't wait to dive in. this has also been on my radar for a while.

Young Adult/ New Adult Purchases

Pirouette by Robyn Bavati. I've had this on my wishlist for years. I was extremely excited when I saw it on the shelves at the library.

Beauty & The Beau by Beverly Jenkins. I'm collecting her catalog but in the meantime, I still want to read this until I can find a copy.

I picked this up on a whim and wanted to have a fun quick read. And that's exactly what I got. I luaghed in this book and I looked at the charcters sideways "Like Ok girl, whatever you say".

Going into this book blind without any indication other than the cover was pretty good. You quickly caught onto what was going on.  Now home girl starts off letting us know she's in love with love. She wants to feel what her parents have, however she's more than a little naive about how true love works. Skye and Seth have a great conversation and they hit it off right away, however Skye is a bury her head in the sand kind of girl and she doesn't think about how things will work out.

I loved that time flies by in the book rather quickly. I loved that she had strong happy healthy parents in her life who she had a good relationship with. Ah had two sets of best friends, he summer friend she's been friends with since she was nine and another group of her 'regular' friends; they all know each other and hang out at the end of every summer .  I really loved the girl friendships, I loved that she stressed her volunteer work, her interests in academic success.

Skye however was seriously naive, she had this immature and ill formed idea of hat love was and she kept chasing it. Which in of itself isn't wrong, it is however unfair to the people you date if you don't thing they are worth your time even as you date them.  I loved how she and her friends were different reflections of each other, they could see the flaws in the other but not so much in the mirror.  Seth had his hangups too, based on his parent's and their relationship and his hang ups about money and Skye's wealth.

I loved  his description of college and how it can change you.  Skye wants everything to stay the same yet doesn't really understand that nothing ever stays the same.  I loved how her parents handled them dating and how mature Skye seemed when given different choices.  I know personally I would never turn my life around like this for someone I had one conversation with. However I know people who have and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  I really enjoyed their conversations because they were so sarcastic together.  When conflict hits, I loved that Skye felt safe seeking her friends and her mother;s advice.  I loved that she wasn't the only one feeling like this about the relationship.

However, Skye's immaturity and Seth's trust issues do impact the relationship, without realizing it they really had only a summer romance which is just a surface level romance.  Several times throughout the books Susane showed us that and the characters would duck around the issues.  The story wrapped up quickly and it definetly keeps you engaged trying to see where they go from here and that ending???

A fun quick summer read. I really enjoyed the girlfriends and the parents being such good people.
