Week One's Wrap Up

Week Two's Wrap Up:

For Week Three (even though I didn't record a video) here are the books I knocked off the list and the pile: I completed Quade's Babies by Brenda Jackson; Riveted by Jay Crownover which is an ebook and an ARC, and Talk Cowboy To Me by Carolyn Brown which was on my week one Ebook's TBR list.

With what was happening in the US on January 20th I just didn't feel the need to read. I was depressed and needed to get lost in something else so I watched some tv and caught up on my favorite shows.    Then week 4 rolled around and I wanted to indulge in books again so I finished the following: The Breed Next Door by Lora Leigh;  Soul Deep also by Lora Leigh.   I finally completed this week by finishing up a book I had been reading for a while  The Goddess Legacy by Aimee Carter these are stories in between all the other books and I think if I had read this before I finished the series I would have gone in feeling a little bit differently about some of the characters.  I still loved the series and can't wait to share my thoughts on all the novels.

Email Jennifer Probst has a new book, would you like to review it. Me *psst would I?? Is that a legitimate question?? Types response immediately Why yes. yes I would. Takes book and reads it in 2 days, Me: Sigh now I must purchase all the books here take my money.

This is pretty much how the last few days have gone in my corner of the reading world. Once I read this I was too hooked to put it down. I really loved the characters in this one and I loved that we got a mostly well adjusted couple trying to find their way around life and love in this city.  As a women who lives in Connecticut, a Connecitcuter?? Is that even a word?? Nah we'll just stick to  New Englander it sound better, I absolutely loved that this book was set in my home state, even if the town is fictional, I mean there are a few towns it could be based on but definitely not a real Harrington in CT.  I loved having a book based in CT since that's my play ground and I don't have to imagine too hard the landscape.  or how our summers re just so darn hot (although right about now I would gladly take some of that heat).

So away from me and onto the book review, this book is the journey of a pretty wild and successful bartender turned owner and another of the wealthy brothers from the Pierce Brothers Company.  This is going to be the tale of the young woman who's father was also involved in the crash that took the life of the mother of the Pierce boys.  It's a great story of the redemptive power of love, forgiveness and knowing the one's truth.

So we get to meet Raven and she's pretty badass, she is a bartender with a really cool idea of her own bar & is doing everything to make her baby succeed and in doing so is making a name for herself in town, as well as around the state.  Given the opportunity to showcase her baby and bring in more people Raven has to decide if taking on the Pierce brothers is worth the hassle it will bring.  After her tragedy of her father's passing;  she'd been hell bent on revenge and destruction and this job, this career has been what has saved her, she became a bit of a loose cannon and roomed allover chasing an answer that she couldn't find anywhere else but home.  Having made the decision to change her life around she's really enhanced her life and even though she has wicked chemistry with Dalton she's staying as far away as she can, because his family destroyed hers.

Dalton isn't aware of why the woman's he's so attracted to won't even give him he time of day.  After his mother's passing, he took off to California to make a life for himself and there really got to know his passion and began making a name for himself in the industry. He has a love and passion for wood (ohhh the things I could do with that statement, but I'm going to be good) and a serious talent for making amazing restorations, however he's bored and looking for a project to inspire him and even though he wants to get his hands on Raven, he wants her bar even more.

I really loved the coming together of the couple in this, they felt like two strong willed people circling each other and trying to find a way to be friends while keeping their armour in place.  Raven knew who he was, he didn't know who she was, but he was too chicken to step up the challenge she laid out.  I loved that she made her wished plain, that she knew what she wanted and the fun time he offered wasn't enough for her anymore and she didn't hesitate to say so.  Her life was going to way she wanted for the first time in a long time and she wanted a partner that would understand her quirks without smothering them.  I really loved that Raven was a bartender, and a fan of creating great drinks (as a bartender myself I love that look of surprise when they try a drink and love it).  Being that I know the career she's in made me love her more, made me love the crew that worked for her and made me especially love Al because I assure you there are tons of him working in bars everywhere.

Dalton was a good guy who loved a good time and was honest about it.  He was fascinated by Raven and when he realized her needs and his weren't linking up he offered friendship and really meant it.  He hoped for more but understood that she wasn't going to give him that more.  My favorite scenes are when they both are having fun, and then he nerds out on her only to discover she's just a big of a nerd.  I loved them hanging out on the porch and him sharing his favorite myths with her and I just knew he wasn't going to be a happy camper when he found out who she was.

They both as kids blamed the other without really thinking about how their parents where grown adults who made their own *albeit effed up * decisions.  I loved the female friendships, the lack of cattiness, even the characters that seemed ditzy turned out to be pretty bad-ass as well.  I really loved the look at the familial friendships as well, how much the brothers loved and respected each other, even though as the youngest Dalton was a little more sensitive to the teasing.  I'm looking forward to more books from the series including their co-workers I'm really hoping it's not just the brothers getting stories, or if it is then at least the other characters get their stories in the books.

I loved how the characters had to learn that the past shouldn't be used as an excuse, and that even if this isn't your path, it can still be traversed well.  This isn't where Raven or even Dalton thought they would be; but as time passed, and needs changed and got clearer; they each had to learn to grow and to let go of the things that wouldn't help them, and yet it very muuh was the past that pushed them along.

I'm glad Raven wasn't a push over and that when it came down to it, she still valued herself and what she brought to the table.  I'm also Dalton recognized a gem when he found it and learnt to treasure it. Funny I just realized how much the fact that he's into restoring items, by stripping them down to their most basic and how she's into finding new ways to make the old fun again, works not just for their careers but also for their relationship.  Yeah I loved this one, definitely read it my loves.
 ★★★★☆
I'm looking forward to book three and to finding out what happened with his brother, I'm also looking forward to reading book 1, because you know I had to buy it right??

Happy Reading and I'll see you next time

Book #Review: Nightshade (Night Tales 3) by Nora Roberts

Book Title: Nightshade (Night Tales 3)
Author: Nora Roberts |WebsiteFacebook|
Publisher: Harlequin Intimate Moments
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Series/Standalone: Series Book 3
Format: Mass Market Paperback
Cost: $3.50
Pages: 248
How I got it: Purchsed at Goodreads
Purchase:  Publisher
Publication Date: November 1993

Synopsis:
They sure were making cops in interesting packages these days. Colt Nightshade couldn't believe his luck partnering on a case with Lieutenant Althea Grayson. But the breathtaking detective was strictly by-the-book and had no use for Colt's easygoing renegade style. Thawing the heart of this enticing ice goddess just might be the toughest challenge Colt had ever faced.
I really enjoyed this one.  It's the first time I fell into the series., which it turns out I actually own all of them.  I'm going to go enjoy those in next month's reading list.  So this is an older book and you can definitely tell. I always say books are like time capsules of our culture, because this one showcases the fact that we used have no problem with smoking in our communities and in our homes.

Also seen within is the discussion of payphones, using beepers and even just the talk about cars.  I loved reading this because so many of these things existed within my childhood, but it's funny to me there are children who will never haven known these things existed that have been born today, like how wild is that??

Now onto the actually review of the story,I really enjoyed reading this one as I think there were shadows of Eve Dallas very much present in Althea, this was of course written well before Dallas even existed but the strength of character, the need for law and order, the back story, there are all there and that made me like Thea.  I love Thea because she is what Eve needs to grow into, she is super confident in her role as LT, in her role as friend and in her role as woman.  She hasn't let a lot of people into her life but the ones she has she loves deeply with.  I loved how she was willing to explore the attraction she has with Nightshade on her own terms, I love that she was a little freaked out my the strength of her feelings and I love that she was still strong in her convictions despite feeling the need to be with Nightshade.

I love Colt's sense of humor, how sarcastically witty he was and that of the two he was the most willing to really just run with his feelings.  I love how he knew to back down from pushing Thea and yet he was willing to learn to move around her walls and take care of her.  She pushed back when he pushed too hard, and the two of them together were so funny and fun to read.   There are moments when he realizes what he feels isn't enough and that he needs to care more about her and comes to those conclusions every quickly.  I loved how he wanted to be her hero but understood that she was her own hero and that she was pretty badass on her own.  And I loved that he knew to compliment her on it.

Now the subject matter of the book includes a tough case dealing with runaways and trafficking and it's sad to realize that this isn't new, it's just more high tech now.  I loved how Nora made it plain that while the character made a bad decision to runaway in a fit of temper that everything that happened after wasn't her fault.  I loved that even in describing the horrors of it she didn't feel the need to over describe it or tried to make it more horrifying, i really think just letting us imagine what happened is worse.  I also appreciate how the SANE Dr and nurse where written about.  I liked that this is even in this time that the book was written it was a therapy positive book.

All in all a pretty good read, I was engaged & it just flew by before I knew it the book was ending and I'm curious enough about the other characters to go read the rest of the series.
 ★★★★☆
Have you read this?? How do you feel about books from a different decade?? I hope you enjoy the books you are reading and thanks for stopping by.  Happy Reading

Married for their Miracle Baby by Soraya Lane Never heard of her and I loved the synopsis, so why not.

A Midsummer Night's Romp by Katie Macalister  one of my favorite Romantic Comedy writers so yeah I snagged it.

Nightseer by Laurell K Hamilton. I wanted to see what she has done outside of the two major series i have on my shelves.

Love In The Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez a very well known book it's been on the horizon for me for a while so I wanted to try it.

A Taste of Reality by Kimberla Lawson Roby  a book by Kimberla?? Snag it.

Synopsis:
The Montgomery Ink series continues with the most unlikely of romances between the one that got away and the man who can show her the world. Holly Rose fell in love with a Montgomery, but left him when he couldn’t love her back. She might have been the one to break the ties and ensure her ex’s happy ending, but now Holly’s afraid she’s missed out on more than a chance at forever. Though she’s always been the dependable good girl, she’s ready to take a leap of faith and embark on the journey of a lifetime. Brody Deacon loves ink, women, fast cars, and living life like there’s no tomorrow. The thing is, he doesn’t know if he has a tomorrow at all. When he sees Holly, he’s not only intrigued, he also hears the warnings of danger in his head. She’s too sweet, too innocent, and way too special for him. But when Holly asks him to help her grab the bull by the horns, he can’t help but go all in. As they explore Holly’s bucket list and their own desires, Brody will have to make sure he doesn’t fall too hard and too fast. Sometimes, people think happily ever afters don’t happen for everyone, and Brody will have to face his demons and tell Holly the truth of what it means to truly live life to the fullest…even when they’re both running out of time
I really enjoyed this novella. I went right ahead and purchased all the other books, I had the first book but the others I purchased. I can't wait to dive into them.  I can't believe I hadn't heard about this series before what was I doing with my life.

I really loved how realistic this seemed.  It was a simple, sweet romance, that was a really quick read that engaged you from the beginning.  I absolutely fell in love with Holly, she was such an amazing woman.  Reminded me so much of me; she was willing to try some great adventures even if to others they didn't seem that wild.  I loved how much she was confident with her life and love but also like most women would have her moments of doubt.  When I was in college I really into trying everything I could, and I used so many books to help me with ideas, I really loved finding new things and places to go, even if no one else wanted to go.    I really loved that for Holly she was doing this not because she was completely unhappy with her life but because she didn't want to be bored. She wanted to have a little bit of excitement, sometimes just trying a new restaurant was enough and sometimes she went all out.  I loved that Brody understood and complimented that instead of being the reason, he was there to back her.

Reading her and Brody's budding friendship that bloomed into something more.  They really laid the foundation for a good friendship first and that is what made them so awesome together. I really enjoyed their conversations while at the same time Carrie gave us the space to imagine how they really interacted.

I really enjoyed the glimpses of old friends and saw how much they have bloomed as well.  My favorite parts where the conversations in between the friends, the way they all seemed to care so much about each other and had each other's backs. I can't wait to completely catch up and get the books coming out this year as well.

This is such a lovely book and I kept imagining that the boys here knew the Marked Men from Jay Crownover's series and it made me love the series even more ( I know they don't crossover, but hey that's what fan fiction is for).

I enjoyed this and finished in just one day and have already started in on the others and would highly recommend this one.
 ★★★★1/2☆
Happy Reading

2017 Weekly Wrap Up 8-15th

Welcome back to the blog my loves. I hope you've had a rally good reading week.  I really had another good reading week this week.  It's not in quantity it's definitely in the quality of the books I read.  This week I completed three books and got three more on the hooks, so hopefully next week I'll have those on the read list.

Now let's talk about what I read.  I read A Christmas Prayer by Kimberla Lawson Roby.  I ended up giving this one four stars. I really got engaged to the story and wanted to read more so this went quickly.  I enjoyed the length of the story but wished we had gotten some more from it.  I will have a full review later.  *although I might save it for next yule*

I also read another my ARCs that I have on the list, I'm looking forward to sharing my full review later in the month on the blog on January 26th. Any Time Any Place is the second book in the family saga and I loved it.  I have once again added have added the first book on my tbr.

Then I decided to try out the erotica series I was recommended by one of my favorite Booktubers. The Reading Outlaw This series s called the The Beyond Series by Kit Rocha and it is fantastically erotic and sensual.  I can't wait to read the rest of the series.  This is so steamy, definitely highly recommend.

I'm going into next week with my reading lists still wide open and I'm just going to roll with it.  Let me know what you are doing on your challenges.

Book #Review: Dark Slayer by Christine Feehan

Book Title: Dark Slayer ( Dark Carpathian )

Pages: 416
How I got it: Library

Synopsis:
A rumor has persisted in the vampire world of a dark slayer—a woman—who travels with a wolf pack and any among the vampires who meets her is slain. Mysterious, elusive and seemingly impossible to kill, she is the one hunter who strikes terror into the hearts of the vampires. Ivory Malinov is that woman, betrayed by her own people, by her family, by everyone she held dear and she hunts during the night with only her pack to sustain her sanity. She has not spoken to or been with any other person for a hundred years other than to feed from or slay. She stumbles across a body on her way back to her lair and discovers—her lifemate. He is Razvan, branded a hated criminal, detested, feared and loathed by all Carpathians—he is also a dragonseeker of one of the greatest lineages of all Carpathians Held captive nearly his entire life by his grandfather, the Carpathians bitterest enemy, he is seeking the dawn to end his terrible existence. This is a story of two people, horribly betrayed, wounded in spirit, fighters to the death, who must struggle to unite against a common enemy.

For the first time ever, the woman is the hunter (at least in the ones I have read so far) this book comes after Dark Curse; where they discuss the issues associated with female hunters. hilarity ensues when Gregori opens his mouth, but it's well worth reading.

Ivory survived something that would have killed the average Carpathian & she did it in the most unique way.  She then creates wolves for herself to run with a pack, she is KICKASS with a capitol K.    Ivory endured when others would have died and she made something of herself that encompassed & changed her world.  Raz arguable the most hated Carptathian trapped by his own family & left for dead he finally makes his way to freedom to the cleansing sun & his lifemate finds him (always at the nick of time that these men are found).

I love the role reversal the two have, that she is the one he must learn from. That she has the experience he lacks as a warrior & yet he despite his experiences has the emotional balance she needs.  I love that they balance each other out.  I love that they needed each other & that they fit together without a great struggle & he didn't try to control her from the get go.  they worked well & I loved their dynamic.

I particularly loved that it wasn't physical strength. Razvan possessed in abundance that drew her to him it was sheer strength of his character, the absolute well of determined spirit deep inside him.  He was so steady, a rock for her. Check out page 235, the scene there was emotional.

I love this book it has become my all time favorite Carpathian novel.  Razvan is an amazing man; his zen like approach to life just drew me in. I love that Ivory was the physically stronger one but still needed him emotionally.

It's a definite must read. Either purchase or check your local library to see if they have a copy. However you do, make sure get this one it's well worth the time to read.

Repost From my old blog. Updated and edited.

I'll be honest, I didn't get much work done yesterday because of this book. It was slow at work so I read while I should have been doing 'busy' work, you know the crap that normally doesn't get done during a regular week, you do when there is nothing left. Yeah I said screw that & stuck my nose to the phone screen so I could read this book.

I was totally engaged and engrossed I almost didn't get any sleep trying to finish this book.  I knew I loved this book within the first chapter when Cath had me laughing out loud on a crowded bus.  Cath is witty, sarcastic, funny and the kind of woman I could totally be friends with, so I loved her as a character.   Plus she works with the arts, like knitting and the awesomeness of history and knitting, yeah I was all over that.

City, good gawd City, can I have one of him served up please??!!! What a guy, what a man. I just wow, He was everything awesome that scene with them after he blind date?? Especially when she said 'don't murder me" I was laughing and snorting so much on the bus, the guy next to me moved.  You could feel the chemistry from them, they were great from the first. Especially when you realized City liked her as much as she liked him

I really wanted them to get together, I just knew that the crap was going to hit the fan when he took her home.  I couldn't wait to read the fireworks between Cath & his mother, they were also awesome, especially when they went head to head, then Cath did what she does so well.  If I was Nev I would have kicked my siblings' a**, you not pulling this crap round here. Nope not going to happen sir..

It's a good engaging read. I had quite a few laughs at Cath's expense, I totally get that she doesn't want anymore mistakes, and Nev's answer to that just floored me.  I love them together, I really loved the ending, I personally loved that Cath had extensive tattoos and was such a buttoned up woman at work; & that Nev's job was so boring but he was such a passionate artist. Just goes to show you never know.

A definite must read, it was extremely fast and funny, & wasn't too outlandish like so many other romance scenarios now a days, which made it even more fun to read, because you could totally see this happening.

Have a fun time reading my loves.

2017 Week 1 Wrap Up Jan 1-7

Hi My loves,
I wanted to start linking my videos here:

I'm so excited I did so well this week for reading. I'm so excited about all the books I managed to get read.  I literally flew threw my books and I'm loving the motivation it's creating.  Here is my Lora Leigh Challenge video showcasing the books on my shelves that I wanted to read.

So this week I managed to knock 5 books from the Lora Leigh challenge off the list. I read two of the books I actually had on my bookshelf and three books I purchased to read for the challenge.  These include :

I really enjoyed reading these and blew through them really quickly.  I absolutely loved this series I'm loving the transition from the Ellorascave series then the other books from Berkley.  I can't wait to follow the rest of the series which I have on my shelves.

Then because I really wanted to continue reading some of the books I had laid out in my tbr, I pulled Adoring Ink by Carrie Ann Ryan which comes out this month. I really enjoyed Holly's story and can't wait to share with you my full review.

And then because I wanted to know the story that was the background to the Adoring Ink book so I snagged Ink Endured and really enjoyed that one and needed to just read the rest of the series as well. (I now own all of them, and this is why my TBR is never going down. )

So there you have it I enjoyed my reading week with almost all my books being four star reads for me this weeks.  Enjoy the video where I share a little more about each and I will see you next week.

Oh Yeah I'm now down to 358 books to complete my yearly challenge.  I'm also now down from 28 books to be read in the  Lora Leigh Challenge to having only 23 left. Yeah I'm loving my progress this year so far!!!

Challenge Rules:
  • This challenge will run from Jan 1, 2017 – Dec 31, 2017. Link up a sign-up post (below).

  • Grab the reading challenge button (code & button below) and post this reading challenge on your blog to track your progress. Please include a link back to this sign-up post so others can join the reading challenge too. • You can list your books in advance or just put them in a wrap-up post. If you list them, feel free to change them as the mood takes you.
  • When you sign up in the linky put the direct link to your post about joining the 2017 Witches & Witchcraft Reading Challenge, not just a link to your blog.
  • You can move up levels, but no moving down.

17 Books I'm Anticipating in 2017

Good Morning my loves,  how are you doing?? Me, I'm jumping in excitement over the following 17 books that are coming out this year. Most of them I've already pre-ordered because they are too awesome not to.  If you have other books that you think I should be on the look out for share down below and we can fangirl together:

Brave by Tammara Webber   Dates Unknown (Contours of The Heart Book )
Another addition in the awesome series by Tammara, I loved Easy so much and fell in love with her writing and I can't even begin to explain how much I'm looking forward to this book. I'm so ready for this book.

Riveted (Saints of Denver 3) by Jay Crownover. Feb 14th Grrl, you know I pre-ordered this the second the link went up right?? No hesitation, I have yet to be disappointed in a Jay book so yeah, basically this one was mine the second she said we could have it.

Salvaged (Saints of Denver 4)  June 20th Man listen it's the hot nerds' book.  Get out my way chick I need this.

Long Way Home by Katie McGarry.  Jan 31st No surprises here, I've been loving on Katie ever since I fell in love with Noah and Echo. My love for young adult comes from her and Susan Colasanti.  These two ladies make reading the genre fun, and I can't wait to explore more from Katie, now if we could only get more from the Pushing the Limits series I would be a happy fangiil.

The Rising by Heather Graham & Jon Land Jan 17th I almost screamed when I saw this. When I met Jon two years ago,  he mentioned that he would be working with Heather on a book and it's finally freaking here!!! By time you see this it will be in my hands just 14 days later ahhhhh!!

Wake A Sleeping Tiger (Breeds 31) by Lora Leigh March 30
I'm so excited to see that this is a continuing series.  I can't wait to read this book (damn this is 31 books??) . I'm loving the breed series so far and I'm really interested in seeing where this is going.

Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds Date Unknown
No cover is provided yet. This is going to be a book in prose talking about the street violence. I can't wait to read this.

Echoes In Death by JD Robb 02/07
Goddamn I can't catch up, she's writing too many, I'm loving it though Eve and Roarke re two of my favorite people to read.  I can't wait to finally catch up.

Secrets In Death by JD Robb 08/07 No Cover Yet
It's another book in Eve's life, I'm so excited. She'll always be on my lists every year until this is a done series.   Just be aware.

Wired by Julie Garwood 05/22  The newest in the Buchanan-Renard series, this is the 13th installment and I can't wait to get this into my hands. I thought this was coming out in 2016 but it apparently not, either way I can't wait to get into new one.

A Tragic Kind of Wonderful by Eric Lindstrum  02/07 This is the second book by this author. I loved LOVED his debut work from last year.

Roman by Sawyer Bennett 02/21
I love dipping in and out  of this series, I'm so excited to jump into Roman's book and seeing how it plays out.

Safe Bet by Monica Murphy 02/21
I'm excited to get this book I loved LOVED all the books in this series and I can't wait to come back to it and read and see all of the characters that I love and really get lost in Monica's world.

Ever My Love by Lynn Kurland 04/04/17
I can't believe I didn't realize Lynn was still writing.  I can't believe she has been writing all this time and I didn't know. Girl I have so many books to read to catch up. This was one of my favorite time traveling series. I can't wait to get this in my hands and read it all.

Wicked Cowboy Charm by Carolyn Brown Jan 31st
Another down home cowboy contemporary story. Yeah I'm here for it.

Law & Disorder by Heather Graham 1/2017  It's Heather, she had to be on this list.  And that's that.

So many of my favorites aren't publishing this year, nothing coming out from Brenda Jackson, or any of the other major romance writers that I normally have on this list. However,  we gotta make sure we check in again later in the year maybe they will come out with something by then.   Most of these are coming out in the first half of the year.

What are you looking forward to in the beginning of the year?? What are your authors coming out with.  Share in the comments down below

Thanks for much for sharing and I will see you tomorrow
