When I was at Book Expo America 2013, the sales pitch for this book was   " This is the book that inspired 50 Shades of Grey", another blogger and I were in line and he said "I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing". I laughed but I decided to stand in line because the author was there so she would be able to pitch it better and she did. It was pretty entertaining, I was both excited and nervous to read the book (because if I haven't made it clear before I dislike hate 50 Shades of Grey, clearly it's not the genre,it's not the content....Sigh look that's a whole other post but yeah, moving on. ) Let's start with the beautiful cover, I loved this cover, it's very simple yet just hints at the raunchy contents hidden within.

I will say I found the series interesting and engaging, this story itself both great for laying the foundation for the rest and truly draws you in.  This one is told, well, from the Submissive's (Abbie's) point of view.  Answering an ad for a submissive makes Abbie both nervous and eexcited.  Abbie had her own reasons why she choose to do this, she was new to being a submissive; but for Nathaniel she would do just about anything.  Nathaniel was both engaging and bit aloof, you couldn't quite get a read on him, but considering we were filtering it through Abigail's perspective it's understandable.

I enjoyed seeing her reasoning, learning his reasoning, watching as they both learnt to navigate their way through this deal and then eventually through the new deal they had formed.  It moved fast & the story that unfolded was both sweet and raunchy. There are clearly moments where Nathaniel failed as a Dominant, he however would find a way to make it up and even make sure it never occurred again. I liked the tension between them and even the way in which they were together, Abbie was being challenge and so was Nathaniel.  I loved that it was set in NYC and that they talked about books a bit.  I loved quite a few of the side characters and even had a few moments of chuckling while reading the book. It certainly had it's dramatic moments.

I liked Abbie as a character and even before I finished the book placed my pre-order for the next two books.  I must admit I finished the book within a few hours because I just didn't want to leave the story alone.  

In the case of was it a good thing or bad thing to have influenced the creation of 50 Shades?? I can see in the story where there are clear lifts from the story in FSOG ( a little more watered down ) but this one was actually done well. The scenes were written in a way that let you know the author either did excellent research or had a consultant on them, which made me a little happy (ok a lot happy). It's not the most brilliant book ever written but it's a good addition to the genre.

It's one of my new faves in the genre and I highly recommend it for those who both loved and hated FSOG because if you loved it then here is a good transition book into the genre, if you hated FSOG here is a well written introduction to the genre.

Excellent conclusion to many of the open questions of books one and two.  I do understand that there are now two more books being added to the series and I'm looking forward to a whole lot more Gideon and Eva.

Once again *getting ghetto for a little bit here* I'mma need all Exes to step all the way to the left. Find a goddamn seat and stop butting in grown folks relationship Okay?? To the selfish biotch and her reckless stunt yeah how did  that work out for you??? It didn't.. did it?? Here darling these are your tickets to your stadium full of seats.  * ghetto lesson over.*

Once again we're back in Eva's world and for once she's not the one causing trouble.  Cary's finally taking his head out of his hind parts and doing a great imitation of an adult.  The amount of crazy coming off the former women, I'm beginning to doubt Gideon's senses; Sir how didn't you see they weren't all there?? This story flew by so much faster than book two and reminded me so much of book one, I loved it. The pace was amazing, the scenes between them so emotional and raw. I just wow, there's a scene on a plane and let me tell you, The heat coming off the page?? *gets out fan* Eva you better get it!!  This time Gideon was on full frontal assault for the relationship instead of Eva going to bat all the time, he was down there in the trenches working with her and I was so here for it. I loved ever moment of it.

How did Eva not see her dad's reaction coming?? Yeah, I totally saw it coming and it should have come from Eva or her mom not from the source her dad got it from.  Just like she went at Gideon for trying to protect her, she should have seen her own actions were not that different.

I really want to know her mother's story. Am I the only one who wants to know her motives?? Because I'm going to go ahead a say only people who have been there never ever want to go back. Nobody comes up with issues like this without some sort of really good background story.

I can't wait to see what else is in store for the two lovers.  I want to know who it is that did them the favor.  I want to know why. I'm sure Ms.Day is going to give us some seriously good reasons.  The name of the new novel was released recently and it's called "Captivated By You" it's due out sometime this year, so you know I'm looking forward to that.  No Cover or release date has been given at this time, OMG I so would love some information at BEA, but she's not coming to BEA this year (Boooooo!!!)

I have said before that I just read these because they are short, sweet, no real deep thoughts or plot involved. I love reading them in between deeply emotional or thought provoking books or even while waiting on a book series to complete. Very rarely do I dislike them, as much as I disliked this one.

I don't like anybody involved in this book other than Caroline (the child) I kept forgetting the name of the lead female character because she was so forgettable and Will, Mr I can't take No for an answer, is just this side of being a stalker.

Hell even the name of the book lets you know he doesn't know what "NO" means.  It began to get repetitious as they kept having the same conversation over and over and over again. "No, you don't believe in commitment and that's what I want not an affair" Her; Him" I only believe in affairs"  You're on two different planets and still determined to sleep with each other?? Why?? It's not logical especially because neither of you are really getting what you want.

The child Caroline, her story took front and center of the story and to tell the truth it was more interesting than the "romance".  It was also clear to several things were wrong with the scenario 1) her parents are dead it takes TIME for her to get over that, it's not going to happen in 6 months, let her grieve.  2) If she is having trouble then you seek a THERAPIST not a  tutor 3) Ava & Will's relationship was still that of employer/employee, him pursuing her even after she asked him to stop was very inappropriate s well as could be seen as him attempting to take advantage of his position.

After a while I just wanted to quit reading because he was too rapey and she was indecisive and there weren't any real sparks between the two.  I had other issues like Ava not being able to take a compliment, why are you talking me out of paying you the respect you deserve?? (pg 117 & 123).  If you're not really doing anything positive, then why are you here?? Why is he paying you??

 The 'love scenes in pages 91, 157, 111-112, WTF dude seriously?? When a woman says "we have to stop", don't tell her "no you don't really want to" and continue attempting to seduce her.

 I'm not amused by this story at all. Do Not Recommend.

I enjoyed this read. I so want her job, who couldn't get behind that?? I mean I talk about sex all the time, getting paid to both have it and talk about it???!!! I'm so there, where do I sign up??  Beatriz (nickname Bea or Miss Bea Haven) has so many ways to get her job done and done with flair. A fun, traveling the globe woman, who revels in her job, she's going home to take part in her sister's wedding, and that's where the fun begins.

Bea and Ben had one perfect date and kiss and then he left after he ruined it.  Now it's five years later and they are back together again for Bea's sister's wedding, which is Ben's best friend's wedding as well and they have no choice but to behave cordially.

Bea is stuck because has a book to review and no one to help her. This becomes the source of most of the comedy and the seriously sexy scenes between them.  An explanation of why he did what he did is given and accepted, someone messes up and almost ruins the wedding and then Ben becomes an even bigger hero.  This story flowed fast, had great moments between all the characters, some funny bits, and some seriously sexy bits.

Both Bea and Ben are great characters and I wish we had more about them. Their history helped to make the story more believable and understandable.  It's a fun modern sexy read (did I say sexy enough?? I mean she is a sex blogger, and he's totally open to doing whatever helps her do her job better).

 Even the end of the book was both amusing, fun and kinda let you know it's going to be a good time for all involved.

I had a good laugh reading this book, it's a cute story. I liked all the characters, Gregori sounds like a good guy; I really liked Wren, she was really well rounded as a character, she had a full life and allowed Gregori to be a part of it, but not the main focus, which I thought was a great way for them to come together.

Wren and Gregori; even their names are amazing, yeah I loved this story. Wren's a strong character, who wanted to know Gregori, but wasn't willing to sacrifice who she was for the attention of Gregori, who is a big time artist.

Gregori is an awesome character as well, he'd made mistakes before and didn't want to make the same ones with Wren, he would rather have her as a friend than chance losing her all together.  So he takes forever to even make his attraction known to her.

The story was well written and flowed well. Considering it's only 112 pages, Lauren managed to put in a very well rounded story with great characters.  It packed quite a punch, the emotional upheaval, the leap of faith needed to create their relationship was amazing. I truly enjoyed it. Can't wait to read more from the new Cosmo Red Reads, these should be great!!

Welcome to the fourth Review Copy Cleanup! After three successful editions in 2012 and 2013, we’re back for another month of review copy reading madness. Whether you have a polite pile or a complete mountain of review books to get through, everyone is welcome to join. 

What is the Review Copy Cleanup? 

The RCC is a month-long event in which Vicky from Books, Biscuits & Tea and me (Nyx at Nyx Book Reviews)  challenge ourselves to read as many review books as we can. We are both notorious for accepting way too many requests, and consequently our to be read piles are pretty daunting. For some extra motivation to read, we invented the Review Copy Cleanup. This year we are keeping things simple – no challenges and just one scheduled chat, and weekly updates so we can all keep track of each other’s process. You’re welcome to keep track of the challenge in the way that’s most convenient for you.

Well there you have it, I'm among my people. We swear we can read faster than we actually can or if we do we don't write the reviews right away so reviews pile up and we fall further and further behind. Here I'm confessing my guilty list of books to clean up and reviews to finally write ( or in my case transcribe, I write on paper and always seem to have a mental block when it comes to typing them up O_o I don't know I just work here..lol)

Unlike December Bride, January Bride is done with a stronger flavor of faith in it.  It's a cute story about a writer and an innkeeper widower who mistakenly believed something about the other, they start to communicate through letters and slowly begin to feel great regard for the other even though they have never met.

I laughed when I figured out what was happening; they certainly had their own time frame and they truly had made some funny assumptions about each other.  I loved that the characters were both book lovers (one being an author, the other a professor in English).  It was funny to read about an author struggling to get the story written and how she kept finding little pieces of Arthur and using them in the book she was writing.

They several near meetings and each one made you want to see if they would figure out who the other was.  I loved their friend who kept them in the dark and aided in the meeting of minds before they could even begin to find reasons why it couldn't work. I totally get Arthur's hesitation and clearly, he needed to feel like he was doing the right thing and not just being a lonely man grasping the first thing to make him feel.  Maddie was an amazing and straightforward woman, who knew what she wanted but didn't want to be jerked around and she put her boundaries out there and I love her even more for it.

I enjoyed reading the story, even with its strong Christian flavor, it might be a little strong for those who aren't Christian but will be the right amount for those looking for a good clean love story with faith involved.  ★★★1/2☆☆

Out of the three books I have read so far, this is the best one. I loved this story. I loved that the couple had a history so it wasn't insta~love and that it had so much love flowing through the pages.  The Christianity wasn't overt and loud, but it was there in the Bible quotes, the deeply held beliefs and thoughts of so many of the characters especially the main characters.

Allie was a great character to read, she had so much hope, but was so deeply afraid of hoping and leaving a greater legacy of pain than her family did. I totally could relate to not wanting to repeat family mistakes, but I also understand that it's also your choices, something that Allie hadn't learnt yet.

The author wove so much emotion into the story, that even after my reading sprint was supposed to be over I couldn't give up reading until I was totally done with the story.  I loved reading Marcus's thoughts as well and having him struggle with hoping and not wanting to be the one left with a broken heart again but still being willing to believe.
