Yule Holiday Reading List 2020

Yule Reading Challenge
November 1, 2020 - January 6, 2021

Welcome back to another year of the Yule Reading Challenge, here I attempt to read all the Yule/ Christmas books listed on my shelves and any ARCs I might have.  Last year I did this list and really enjoyed reading some of the books I owned.  This lead to me falling in love with a few new authors and adding them on to the TBR Pile but also made me aware of the awesome stories already sitting on the pile from those authors as well.

With another season on us I wanted to give myself plenty of time to really fall in love with these books, since I don't celebrate Thanksgiving I'm going to be going right from Halloween reads right into the Yule season.  If you would like to join in just share in the comments down below and we can work on motivating each other to clean up the TBR Pile just a little bit more.  To make this more fun, this year we are going to be doing some giveaways as well. More to be announced so be on the lookout!!

Now onto the books to be read:

Synopsis:
Claimed by the prince

For Christmas or forever?

Sicilian chambermaid Antonietta prides herself on her discretion, so she’s mortified by her inappropriate reaction to her hotel’s newest guest! Antonietta has no idea Rafael is the notorious prince of Tulano. All she knows is that his touch lights her up more brightly than a Christmas tree.

Their unexpected connection floors cynical Rafe. All he can offer is a temporary festive seduction before resuming his royal duties. But unwrapping the precious gift of Antonietta’s virginity changes everything. Rafe must choose—his crown, or Antonietta…
Antonietta returns home to Sicily after fleeing on her wedding day 5 years ago. Her family hadn't listened when she starting raising objections and went ahead with the arranged marriage and because she fled they have been holding a grudge ever since. She's home hoping her time away gave them a chance to forgive her and will welcome her home for the holidays.  To help her out her best friend has gotten her hired at her husband's newest hotel in their home town, there she will work part time as a chambermaid in the luxury suites and train the rest of the time as a massage therapist.

Not one for gossip she's unaware of the significance of the hotel's newest guest, when she's assigned to his room. Rafe is there to recover from a recent skiing accident that he can't allow the people of his country to learn about. Tired of being regulated to the life of a playboy he's been pushing for more responsibility from his father as Prince of his people, however his father has one stipulation and Rafe cannot abide by it. One of Rafe's best friend has given him a place to recuperate and rethink things. While there he finds himself drawn to Antonietta who meets none of the standards his family requires for a future queen but he himself can't get her out of his mind.

As time goes by and he heals and gets to know the woman who is  here to make his stay more comfortable he is forced to re-evaluate what he expects for his future. I really enjoyed how slowly they built this relationship. Even with their attraction they took the time to get to be friends first, Rafe especially was uncertain with how this friendship could develop and where it would lead. As the pressure mounts for him to make a choice Rafe realizes he doesn't want to be like his father. When given a choice he makes the best for himself. To be honest I was prepared for that, I kind of expected the story to be just a fling I should have remembered I'm reading a romance novel and HEA are guaranteed.

The friendships are what really help this story along. I loved that her best friend tries to help her and make her confront what is happening with her family and see it realistically. I loved that she's a safe haven for Antonietta and is a great sounding board as well.  I am enjoying how much these new romances challenge our beliefs about what a heroine can be and how they can fall in love. It's a sweet Christmas romance that makes Antonietta face what makes a 'family" especially because her own isn't the best.

I loved how sweet they were together and how Antonietta embraced her new life and the changes she wanted for herself.

Book #Review: Heartsong Cottage (Eternity Cottage # 10) by Emily March .@emilymarchbooks

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series/Standalone: Series
Format: ebook, Mass Market
Cost: $5.99
Pages: 320

Synopsis:
Two weary strangers are about to rest their burdens in Eternity Springs, where there's hope for every broken heart. Haunted by the loss of his wife and son, Daniel Garrett left the police force to devote his life to finding missing children. But he still hasn't found a way to mend the wounds of his past-until he attends a wedding in the small mountain town of Eternity Springs...and meets a beautiful, intriguing woman who offers a glimpse of something Daniel thought he'd never have again. Sometimes life gives us a second chance at love. Shannon O'Toole isn't looking for romance. Ever since her fiancé's death, she created a quiet life for herself restoring Victorian cottages. Still, she can't deny her attraction to the handsome, broad-shouldered stranger. Daniel makes her feel things she's hasn't felt in years-including the desire to share her secrets. But can Shannon trust a detective when doing so could bring danger to her cottage door? In Eternity Springs, anything-and everything-is possible...
I really enjoyed this story. I hadn't realized this was a part of a series, so I was a little lost when some names and stories were referenced, but now I want to read the rest of the series.  I have created a playlist for this and I really enjoyed that the book had such a strong love for music.  Also for those looking for a clean romance novel, this is it, I really enjoyed that as well.

The two caracters each also had a strong love and affinity for music and I really enjoyed the way it helped to be their meet cue and gave them a basis for their connection.  Daniel has had a brutal blow dealt to his life and he has taken the damage it has left and tried to help those currently dealing with it.   I loved that he was able to make his experience something worthwhile, because so many would have just gone down with the grief.  Shannon O'Toole is living a life she never thought she would be living, and even though it's not the life she envisioned, she's still having one hell of a life, she owns a bar, she's renovating an older home and she's surrounded by friends that she loves.

When a friends gets married and she runs into Daniel, she does something totally out of character for her and now she has to decide where to go from here.  Daniel will bring change and challenge her ideas of what her life will be like, and they will have to decide if they are ok with the changes. I loved how Daniel was so not down for anything and then as the story progressed he came to some serious conclusions well before Shannon did. I loved the friendships we got to see, not just between Daniel and Shannon but the frienshships they had with people in eternity springs.  I almost belive that the lady on the Gold Wings, is actually an angel.  I really loved this story, I loved how it unfolded and how they were as they grew as friends.  I loved that they had music in common, and that Daniel was a singer.

I loved the scene in the tavern,  I loved that Daniel such a strong character and that he was amazing with Shannon.  Shannon was an awesome character to read, she really had a good life that she was living, even if it was limited by her fear.  When we get her full story I'm so heartbroken for her, and I totally understand why she is the way she is. I mean that trip to Florida proved her right didn't it.

I really enjoyed this story, and the growth for both characters, even when I wanted to knee Daniel for being an idiot.  I love how the story comes together and I so totally need the other books in my life.  I loved that it's a Christmas story as well, and second chances are amazing to read.

I highly recommend it. I totally read this in one day and I can't wait to get into the others. Have you read Emily's work before??  What did you think ? I'm loving this new town.

The only cons I had which brought it down to a four instead of a five star read was the use of the word "Gypsy" now while Daniel was the one who used it describing himself and his family history it should be noted that the Romani don't call themselves that, it's a derogatory word very much a racial slur, because it comes with it's own associations of criminal activity or someone with loose morals and many other stereotypes.  My other reason was her description of a person of color who is from the Caribbean, his accent is described, his hair but he isn't given a name, even the damn kid who causes an accident but has nothing else to add to the story, has a name. Also Rastafarian is a religion, it isn't a hair type, they can have locs, locks, dreads, however you want to call it, but to be Rasta is to be of the faith, that's like saying you're Jewish, because your hair is curly, nah that's not how it works. So I docked points for those, other than that I loved the story.

Are you excited about the Yule/Christmas books that are coming out?? Im so excited about the season.  Happy Reading

Synopsis:

Certain individuals might consider Lady Amelia Pembroke a managing sort of female, but truly, most people would be lost without her help. Why, the latest on-dit is that rakish Viscount Sheffield is canceling the fête of the year because he hasn't time for silly soirees. He doesn't need time—he needs her! When a flash of lightning destroys the venue for his family's annual Christmas ball, Lord Benedict Sheffield intends to enjoy a relaxing holiday for once. But after twelve days of beguiling Lady Amelia's guerrilla tactics, he's up to his cravat with tinsel . . . and tumbling head over heels in love.

I got this on my kindle a few months ago and kept meaning to pick it up. Well I finally decided it was time to read it so I could read the rest of the series. And I actually liked it. This is a first time read from this author and I quite like her writing style and the way she creates a story.

This is the introduction to the dukes of War and in this we meet the sister of oldest of the group. Lady Amelia in modern society would be a party planner and planner addict, she plans everything and has back up plans for her back up plans. This allows her to live a quite life running her brother's household, but now she's turned her mind to being a wife and having a home, a husband and children who will give her adventure because of their unpredictability. She's counting on finding one at the annual Christmas Ball, but this time one thing doesn't go as planned because the party has been cancelled and Ameila can't deal with that.

I loved the story especially because Ben had no idea the storm that was about to hit his life. Lady Amelia was perfect for him, she was witty, strong and stubborn and totally challenged him, both of them were creatures of habit and had become accustomed to their routines, and without realizing it these routines became like prisons.

I loved that the story unfolded slowly and that for both characters, this was something that challenged their world views while making them both happy. I loved Amelia because she was so strong, and stubborn, she knew all along what she wanted and while Ben wasn't on her list she wasn't against going beyond that. I loved them together and her brother was such a good source of humor that i can't wait to see his story unfold as well.

Synopsis:
Whatever possessed Emma Braithwaite to move to Silver Glen? She had no illusions that being in Aidan Kavanagh's hometown would reignite the love they'd shared in England years ago. But now that Aidan's returned for his brother's Christmas wedding, it's clear Emma's explosive attraction to the billionaire has lost none of its power. She is the cool English beauty whose betrayal once shattered his heart. So Aidan's not looking for reconciliation—all he wants is Emma in his bed! Needless to say, Emma has other ideas: she's not settling for anything less than commitment this time…
I've loved Harlequin for many years, I'm a huge Yule junkie and I absolutely love Christmas/Yule Romances, so when I got the chance to read Janice's book, I was on it like tinsel on a Christmas tree.

Janice always manages to make her character relateable, they make you love them, fall for them, lust after them and of course want to kick their butts into gear when they act out.

I love happy endings, but Christmas happy endings are always better, I love when Christmas magic works to help bring our protagonists together.

These two are former first loves torn apart by youth and family and are brought back together when their friends get together and get married over the holidays.  Even though they are no longer together, Emma has moved and created a home for herself in her former love's hometown, of Silver Glen, the former English lady, has created a thriving business and finds happiness by being apart of the community even if the piece of her heart is no longer with her.  I loved that she was willing to become more and move on from the past somewhat even though he wasn't there.  Aiden doesn't come home much if he can help it, each time he comes home something else bad happens.  Faced with a looming wedding Aiden is shocked to see the woman who broke his heart  and made him doubt love is friends with his family.

Even though he can't trust her, he is still attracted to her, and decides to use her as a distraction from the past.  They get together and have some seriously steamy moments.  Even a few that make you feel for them and understand where they are coming from, why they feel the way they feel.  They both have secrets and reasons and when it all comes out and boy the emotions.  I loved it and man it totally helped to pull me out of my reading slump.  I loved it.  A good christmas story.

It's apparently a part of a series, it doesn't read like a book in a series, You only get glimpses of the other characters, but this story really focuses on Emma and Aiden and their story.  So you don't have to read in chronological order to get the story.  I do however want to look into the other books to see how those stories unfold.

Synopsis:
Katrina and Liam Holland have the perfect marriage, a home in the trendiest part of Baltimore, and a scorching sex life. As another Christmas approaches, there's only one thing still on Kat's wish list: Hunter Croft. But she made peace long ago with his decision to choose the marines over their relationship. Until seeing him again arouses feelings she thought were in the past… Hunter has spent a decade outrunning his attraction to both Kat and Liam. But now that he's stateside, his self-control crumbles when he comes face-to-face with the two people who star in all his favorite fantasies. Their reunion is both erotic and emotional—and has Hunter wondering if three's really a crowd, after all. Liam can't imagine his life without Kat. But he can imagine a future where the three of them live and love under one roof. Liam and Kat have shared their bed with other men, but Hunter is the only one who could ever have a place in their hearts. And this holiday season, Liam intends to make their dream a reality.
Well heck with a title like that how could I not request it?!! Plus it's from Carina Press, I have yet to be disappointed by one of their authors; although these women are new to me, I must get it, the premise sounds awesome.

This was a quick exciting read. One hot marine and the two people who love him as much as he loves them?? Yes please.  The story centers around the fact that they once had a chance to be together and because Hunter ran Liam and Kat moved on together, now Hunter is back and he's decided to have a little holiday fun.  I loved how Liam accomplished this and that it was the one thing everyone wanted but were afraid to go get.

The romances were well written with the struggles of needing, wanting and moving forward written in a way that made the characters real.  I especially loved Hunter, his struggle was bone deep, even though ti was what he wanted. There are many reasons Hunter ran, and the have some deep roots, they both made this a compelling little novella that i wished was longer and gave the characters a bit of depth. I loved Liam and Kat together, they clearly had a good relationship going and evewn though they were happy without Hunter they knew they had the chance to be estacic with him, if only he would stop running from who he was and who they were.

I loved how they flowed together well, nothing felt forced or stilted and I'm glad the authors acknowledged the reality of the ending.

Its' shot and sweet. I give it five steamy stars, for the great plot and wonderfully erotic scenes. I also give it four stars for overall story.
 ★★★★☆
It was hot and grounded in reality, which made me love it even more. I can't wait to see if there is going to be a full novel, because it has the potential to be amazing. It's a great little Christmas romance. I recommend checking it out.
